Christmas at Allaire 2025: Trains, Lanterns, and How to Support the Magic

Christmas at Allaire 2025: Trains, Lanterns, and How to Support the Magic

It’s that time of year again! The leaves are down, the air is crisp, and Allaire State Park is transforming into one of the most magical places in New Jersey.

If you’re planning your December visit, you probably know that our two favorite non-profits—The Historic Village at Allaire and the Pine Creek Railroad—pull out all the stops for the holidays. But did you know that your visit helps keep history alive?

Here is everything happening this December and why these organizations need our help more than ever.

Christmas in the Village

The Historic Village at Allaire is stepping back in time to 1836. The village looks absolutely stunning in the winter—wreaths on the row houses, the chapel standing quiet in the snow (if we’re lucky!), and the smell of woodsmoke in the air.

  • Christmas at Allaire: This is the big one! Usually held on select Sundays in December (keep an eye out for Dec 14th & 21st this year), the village comes alive with carolers, open hearth cooking, and a visit from Santa.
  • Christmas Lantern Tours: For a spookier, more atmospheric vibe, the VIP Lantern Tours (running select Friday and Saturday evenings) offer a guided walk through the village by candlelight.
  • Holiday Flea Market: Don’t miss the December Flea Market (scheduled for Dec 6th) to grab some unique stocking stuffers.

Check the official Allaire Village Events Page for tickets—they go fast!

The Santa Claus Express at Pine Creek Railroad

If you hear a whistle blowing in the woods, that’s the New Jersey Museum of Transportation hard at work. Their Santa Claus Express is a legendary local tradition.

The train runs weekends in December, and Santa himself rides the rails to visit with the kids. It’s a narrow-gauge time machine that families have loved for decades.

Santa Claus Trains will be operating every half hour on the following Days

  • Friday - November 28th - 11:00am to 4:00pm
  • Saturdays - November 29th, December 6th, 13th, and 20th
    • Day Trains - 11:00am to 4:00pm
    • Night Trains (December Dates) - 6:00pm to 7:30pm
  • Sundays - November 30th, December 7th, 14th, and 21st - 11:00am to 4:00pm

The Season of Giving: Why We Should Donate

We all love exploring the park, but there is a common misconception that the State covers everything. That isn’t the case!

Both the Historic Village at Allaire and the New Jersey Museum of Transportation (Pine Creek Railroad) are distinct 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. They rely on ticket sales and donations to survive.

  • The Village: Needs funds to feed the animals, repair those 200-year-old historic buildings, and run educational programs for students.
  • The Railroad: Is entirely volunteer-run! Your donations buy coal, diesel fuel, and parts to keep those vintage engines running.

If you enjoy the park year-round, consider dropping a donation to them this holiday season. It’s the best way to ensure our kids and grandkids can enjoy this history just like we do.
